The Volunteer Card
As a token of gratitude and recognition for outstanding civic engagement, the City of Frankfurt am Main awards 1,000 e-cards each year.
The Volunteer Card is the best-known form of recognition and is intended for those who have been actively involved in a special way for several years. The card comes with a wide range of benefits.

Who is eligible to receive an E-Card in Frankfurt?
- Anyone who spends at least five hours a week
- for at least five years
- in one or more nonprofit organizations in the Frankfurt am Main metropolitan area
- volunteers for the common good and
- does not receive a lump-sum expense allowance for this that exceeds the reimbursement of expenses.
All criteria must be met.
What do I need to do to get a (new) e-card?
The official application period runs from February through April each year. This year, the quota of 1,000 tickets was not fully utilized during that period. Applications are still being accepted.
The e-card is issued upon application. The application must be fully completed, personally signed, and confirmed by the organization where the volunteer work is performed, and submitted to the Department of Volunteer Work and Foundations. Mutual confirmations by the applicant and an authorized representative of the organization where the volunteer work is performed cannot be accepted.
If you already have an e-card that expires this year and you still meet the eligibility requirements, please submit a new application. The e-card does not renew automatically. You can find the application form for an e-card under "Downloads" during the application period.
What are the benefits of the e-card for me?
First and foremost, the e-card is a token of thanks and recognition for volunteer work. In addition, there are numerous benefits available in Frankfurt am Main and throughout Hesse. We have made the Frankfurt benefits available to you under the "Download" menu item.
